Healthy Choices

At Whitgreave, we are committed to helping children develop healthy eating habits that support their wellbeing, learning and development.

Every morning, all children are offered toast to help them start the day ready to learn. Fresh drinking water is available throughout the school day, encouraging children to stay hydrated and make healthy choices. At break times, pupils can enjoy a wide selection of delicious fresh fruit, provided free of charge for all children.

For families who choose to use our free Breakfast Club, we provide a nutritious breakfast that follows the latest Department for Education Breakfast Club guidance and reflects the principles of the School Food Standards. This ensures children have access to a balanced and healthy start to their day. Children can select from a range of low sugar, high fibre cereals to be eaten with semi-skimmed milk or a plant-based alternative. A wide variety of fresh fruit is also on offer along with toasted higher-fibre bread.

Our approach is guided by national requirements for healthy food in schools. The School Food Standards are designed to ensure that food and drink available during the school day are nutritious, balanced and support children’s health and wellbeing. By providing healthy breakfast options, free fruit and access to water throughout the day, we are proud to promote positive lifelong habits while meeting our statutory responsibilities.

We believe that healthy children are happy learners, and we are proud to create an environment where making healthy choices is easy, enjoyable and part of everyday school life.
